CENFROCAFE was founded in 1999 with 220 small-scale coffee farmers in eleven community-based associations. Today, CENFROCAFE, based out of Jaén, Peru, serves thousands of farmer members in local associations spanning across twelve districts within the lush Cajamarca region.

From technical assistance and quality control workshops for their farmers, to economic and leadership training for the young people in their rural communities, CENFROCAFE works not only to support the commercial endeavors of its members – but also to facilitate the development of their communities as a whole.

CENFROCAFE has 45 members participating in The Cool Farm Tool Pilot Project.

Cool Farm Results

CENFROCAFE's results from the project show an average-neutral carbon emissions intensity, marked by the following:

  • Fertilizer production and application: organic fertilization is the largest driver of carbon removals
  • Shade tree density: the second driver of  removals for CENFROCAFE is the significant biomass stored in shade trees
  • Land use change: 5 instances of annual crop or grassland conversion to agroforestry mitigate emissions from 15 instances of forest conversion
