Coop Norandino (formerly known as CEPICAFE) was founded in March 1995 with 200 members. Today the group has grown into a second level non-profit organization which represents coffee and sugar cane producers of the Piuran mountains of northeastern Peru. Norandino’s primary objectives are to sell 100% of their coffee to the specialty market, to strengthen their organization, and to establish respectful and collaborative commercial alliances with their international network of buyers.
Norandino has 30 members participating in The Cool Farm Tool Pilot Project.
Norandino's results show a slightly above carbon neutral emissions intensity.
Norandino is well versed and established in the carbon markets, participating in the Gold Standard and actively trading carbon credits. Norandino elected an investment model focused on productivity improvements, climate change adaptation, and project management costs. 59% of the premium contributed to their fertilizer production program, funding training and materials, and research into pest control and quality improvement. 17% was directed to a wastewater management program. 24% was invested in M&E and project management.
During the course of the pilot, Piura sustained enormous amounts of rain resulting in landslides and avalanches.
